London, England, (April 23, 2010) – Ingle & Rhode, the UK’s principal retailer of ethical jewellery and custom engagement rings produced using conflict-free diamonds and Fairtrade gold, have been awarded an ‘A’ grade by the ‘No Dirty Gold’ campaign which scores individual jewellers’ ethical policies.
The No Dirty Gold campaign has been created to raise awareness about the negative impact of the gold mining process. Highlighting the scars gold mining can leave on a landscape, they also point out the human cost of gold mining and how communities can be torn apart by wars and conflict in search of higher profit.
No Dirty Gold recently published a report on the state of the jewellery industry called ‘Tarnished Gold?’, which assesses individual jewellers and awards them a score based on how ethical their practices are. Ingle & Rhode were one of only a handful of jewellers in the UK to get the ‘A’ ranking, showing that they have some of the highest and most ethical standards available as jewellery retailers.
