The system that will be borne from the partnership will herald a new era for small scale gold miners and will see them receive a better price for the fruits of their labour. The new standards will ensure that miners are guaranteed the minimum Fairtrade price for their gold and will help to secure their overall safety during mining practices – certified miners will be given targets to try and eliminate their use of toxins in gold and material recovery which will be to the workers’ benefit.
The new partnership means interested businesses will be able to use the FAIRTRADE and FAIRMINED symbols on certified gold products. Fairtrade and Fairmined gold will not contribute to any measure of conflict and will help to increase the economic stability of regions through transparency and assist with peace building efforts.
