Marmalade Releases World’s First Native SDK for LG Electronics Smart TV

London, United Kingdom, (29 September 2011) – Marmalade, the company that enables developers to build and distribute cross-platform applications quickly, easily and without compromise, announced the release of SDK support for LG Electronics’ Smart TV – the world’s first native SDK for the LG Smart TV.

The release follows a year of close engineering collaboration between the two companies to build a healthy developer ecosystem for LG’s Smart TV. Marmalade SDK support for Smart TV creates a way for thousands of existing Marmalade developers,  and developers from the mobile, PC and console worlds, to take their applications into the burgeoning Smart TV market.  Marmalade developers are able to deploy high performance, native applications on multiple platforms from a single code base.

The release cements Marmalade’s promise as being the world’s leading solution for developers to build cross-platform apps targeting Smart TV, tablets and smartphones.

Niall Murphy, CEO of Marmalade, says: “Smart TV is a huge market opportunity.  Developers need an effective way to develop and deliver their applications across smart phone, tablet and Smart TV.  These are the platforms consumers are focused on.  With this release Marmalade is enabling rich, high quality native content on LG’s Smart TV platforms, now and in the future. Our own developer community is already helping to drive this and at the same time benefit from time saving, cost effective true cross-platform functionality.”

BG Kang, VP of LG Electronics, says: “Marmalade was the clear choice for LG due to its solid track record in enabling new platforms with powerful applications and services.  Marmalade is an exciting partner for us in providing core application technology and native application development solutions for our LG Smart TV platforms, and making it easy for developers to bring their applications to LG Smart TV.”
