MeetMyAgent.co.uk Comments on the Public Perception of Estate Agents

London, United Kingdom, (21st November, 2011) – MeetMyAgent.co.uk, an independent estate agent review and rating website, comments on the public perception of estate agents as  upmarket London-based estate agent firm, Douglas & Gordon, reveal that they are behind a recent spoof estate agent documentary.

Douglas & Gordon released the four-minute viral video hit, titled ‘Under Offer’, a mockumentary depicting the stereotypical image of the estate agency profession. The supposed fly-on-the-wall documentary shows estate agents from a previously unknown agency explicitly bad-mouthing their colleagues and homebuyers, whilst male estate agents made sexist remarks about their female co-workers. Two clients have since withdrawn their business from Douglas & Gordon, having been offended by the spoof.

While the film was made in jest, and was received as such by many, it brought to the forefront the generally poor perception of estate agents and their practices from the general public. The impassioned reaction to the film from members of the public and industry insiders demonstrated the widespread lack of faith in the services of estate agents – but is the industry as fraught with bad practice, as perceived in many quarters?

Estate agent review site MeetMyAgent.co.uk allows homeowners to see honest and impartial reviews of local estate agents, giving them with qualitative information about the services provided and helping them to instruct their agent with confidence.  The website was designed to showcase agents who are committed to transparency and delivering excellent customer service by allowing them to be voluntarily independently reviewed and rated by the public.

A spokesperson for MeetMyAgent.co.uk commented: “The common misconception of estate agents is that they adapt borderline-criminal behaviour to secure a sale, and are ruthless in their pursuit for the next deal. However, our website aims to dispel these myths by offering impartial reviews and ratings about reputable local estate agents.

“Douglas and Gordon were the first major independent to list with us, and the daring Under Offer spoof represents this particular firm’s ability to demonstrate how exaggerated and inapplicable the stereotype of estate agents really is.”
