The teaching methods upon which Kumon have based their private tuition, was first developed in 1954 by a very knowledgeable Japanese teacher. His name was Toru Kumon. Toru was not only a dedicated teacher, but also a dedicated father. Soon, the news of his successful tuition techniques began to spread and were implemented all over the globe. There are now more than 4 million school children enrolled in Kumon classes worldwide.
