ebeepbeep.com Encourages Motorists to be Aware of New MOT Rules

Chester, United Kingdom, (2nd February, 2012) – ebeepbeep, an online car service and MOT booking website designed to save drivers money, comments on recent changes to MOT rules.

The MOT test has recently been updated and now includes additional items that merit an MOT failure. Under the updated MOT test an unsecured battery, an airbag dashboard warning light that won’t go out or dangerous wiring will all lead to an MOT failure.

Following the recent changes, online service and MOT specialist ebeepbeep.com recommends that motorists take a few minutes to understand the recent changes.

“There have been a number of changes to the MOT test, which came into practice at the start of the year. It’s highly probable that the majority of motorists don’t know what’s changed. They could have a problem that previously wouldn’t result in a test fail, but will now,” stated Andrew Wilson from ebeepbeep.com.

For instance, in addition to the ABS warning light, the law now stipulates that indicators for electronic power steering, airbag and stability programmes must not stay on. Vehicle batteries must also now be secure so that the unit doesn’t fly and explode in the event of a roll-over. Bare, chaffed, loose or simply dangerous wires are now all acceptable reasons that a garage can use for not issuing a VT30.

“As you’d expect, many of the changes have been implemented with safety or environmental issues in mind,” continues Wilson. “This includes power steering fluid being above the minimum level; airbags being present within vehicles that were designed to have them; and the requirement that cars designed to have a catalytic converter must have one fitted, even if the car meets emissions requirements.”

As ebeepbeep.com points out, regular car servicing is one way to avoid being caught out by the updated MOT. “For reliable motoring we recommend drivers adopt a program of regular car maintenance. For instance, a car service may identify potential problems that could result in an MOT failure, which can then be fixed before the test itself.” concluded Wilson.
