Siddall and Hilton Products Ltd. manufacture wire mesh and wire fencing products for the security, commercial and industrial sectors. Toward the end of what they described as a challenging 2009 they re-focused the business to concentrate on improving the efficiency and reliability of their supply chain and operations. A review of the businesses stock profile conducted with the involvement of both key customer and supplier accounts determined an entirely new approach designed to deliver more than 95% of their most popular products from stock.
This coupled with their investment in a new £2.5M automated welding line last year and their ability to find and retain new customers across the UK, Europe, Scandinavia and more recently, Russia, has enabled them to buck the economic downturn. The company has been producing 24 hours a day since the start of 2010 and is now looking to create additional capacity by further improving productivity through lean manufacturing initiatives.
Managing Director Neil Stewardson said: “We are a UK-based manufacturing business involved in the steel industry and linked to construction and other related sectors which you might think would indicate troubled times, but exchange rates are favourable to exports and our hunger to enter new markets and to win new business are allowing us to prevail. It has been sad to witness several long established Brighouse based manufacturing businesses close in recent months. Many highly-skilled people have found themselves out of work and I am pleased that we have been able to offer new jobs to several of those made redundant. We will not be complacent and will continue to work hard to stay one step ahead of our competitors.”
The company is also looking forward to an enhanced internet presence as it is soon to publish a new website that will incorporate the facility to order products online.
