Hotels in Windermere, lake district hotel

Lake Windermere is the most popular of the 18 lakes with in the Lake District.  Visitors flock year round to admire the natural beauty of this Lakeland gem.  Each season offers a beautiful panorama of its own.  What most visitors don’t realise when they are looking for hotels in Windermere for a short break, is that when they get there, the lake won’t be anywhere in sight!

The place to search is Bowness-on-Windermere.  Fortune will smile on you then as there in the listings you will find the 4 star Beech Hill Hotel.

If it is location, glorious lake views and total relaxation you seek, coupled with superb food, friendly ambience and comfortable “I want to stay in you” bedrooms then hit the booking button!  Out of all lake district hotels, this one has to score tops for its magnificent view over Lake Windermere, framing perfectly, Coniston Old Man – the area’s most picturesque peak.  It sits at the edge of the lake on the eastern side, a short distance out of Bowness so it is peaceful and quiet, yet not far from the madding crowds.

The boats that cruise Lake Windermere depart from Bowness and often stop at the Beech Hill Hotel so it is possible to hop off and enjoy a delicious Cumbrian Cream Tea.  It will give anyone not staying there a chance to see what they are missing!  The hotel has its own jetty and private beach area, so you can admire the lakeside views or you can swim in it!  For those not brave enough to take the cold plunge, the hotel has an indoor heated pool to make up for it.  In the summer there is a Tea Garden for enjoying the homemade scones with lashings of Cumbrian cream!

Bowness-on-Windermere is a pretty little town with a good sprinkling of shops, boutiques, restaurants and pubs. It is a good base for touring the Lake District as Grasmere, Ambleside, Kendal,Hawkshead and other popular towns and villages are within easy driving distance.  Also nearby are attractions such as The Beatrix Potter Museum, Grizedale Forest and Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage. As to the Windermere that doesn’t have a lake in sight… it nearly does as it’s only located a short distance inland.  It too has a good sprinkling of shops and amenities, including the local train station that serves the area.

Though beautiful and relaxing for a short break, Lake Windermere is still best known as a magnet for fans of the great outdoors.  Sailing, cycling, hiking, fishing and rambling are extremely popular activities.  If staying at the Beech Hill Hotel they will kindly provide you with details of varied walks, cycle trails – they are most helpful in ensuring that guests get the best out of their lakedistrict visit.

Anyone keen on fishing will have a great time.  There are plenty of places to cast a line from, including the Beech Hill’s jetty.  The hotel is always happy to prepare any catch for dinner!  If you are a bit more of a swinger and golf is your game, then the challenging 18 holes of the local course are sure to take your focus off the lake for a while!

It should perhaps be highlighted that the Lake District is well known for its produce  and there is a good deal of eating to be done in the dining choices available, from Michelin and AA Rosette dining to gastropub and good old fish ‘n chips eaten by the lakeside.  The breakfasts can be especially good – at least they are if you are at the Beech Hill Hotel where local Cumbrian sausages, freshly laid eggs and lots of other homemade goodies that make up the great English Breakfast  are on offer – or should I say hearty, great Cumbrian Breakfast.   Emphasis on the word “hearty” after all, there are those hills out there to be climbed!!

If you have never been to the Lake District or to Lake Windermere then you really are missing out – big time!  Everyone has to experience it at least once and more often than not, once seen, it has to be seen again.  If and when you do visit, follow the path of fortune and remember Bowness-on-Windermere and the Beech Hill Hotel – from there on in, you can’t go wrong.
